PayCrave
Create a mobile app for tracking and ordering from local food trucks.
PayCrave is a mobile app that allows for users to browse food trucks in their area and order lunch on the go.
Project Overview
Design a consumer app that allows users to discover nearby food trucks and select food to purchase. Allow users to view previous orders, write reviews, and view others feedback.
Discover & Define through User Research
My goal for this app was to design a user-friendly interface that was easy to navigate while on the go. I conducted initial research on the target demographic, the apps they currently use and what their expectation is for them. My research was part online and part offline speaking with individuals around New York City (where food trucks are frequented for lunch).
Based on this research, I was able to create key user stories that would help guide me in the UI design. Because my research allowed me to better understand users needs, I was able to use draw.io to create straight-forward, prioritized user flows for the app.
Sketching & Wireframing
At first, I sketched my wireframes. After some reviews and edits, I transferred these sketches to Balsamiq and created more detailed wireframes. There were various rounds during this process to ensure that the user would have a smooth user experience.
Branding
After extensive mind-mapping, sketches, and refinement, I was able to develop the PayCrave logo and color palette. Through A/B testing I was able to determine which logo resonated most with the target user and edit accordingly. The end product is a whimsical, fun food truck icon with the name displayed clearly underneath. It is fairly straight-forward, yet plays into the charm of food trucks.
Visual Design
I translated my wireframes to Sketch in order to begin visually designing the Paycrave app. Once confident with the design, I created a clickable prototype using InVision. I then began user testing using UsabilityHub and Peek. Tests ranged from A/B testing, to asking participants specific questions, to testing out the flow and how it's working. Throughout this testing I updated the design and prototype to reflect user feedback.
